DATAportl estimates that 14 million home batteries (residential energy storage systems) have shipped in the past five years. Most are installed alongside solar panel systems, with over one-third of global solar installations now including battery storage. However, standalone home batteries are also growing as homeowners take advantage of time-of-use tariffs to optimize energy costs.
Home battery prices have fallen significantly in recent years, making them a more accessible and cost-effective addition to homes. As prices continue to decline, DATAportl forecasts market growth at a CAGR exceeding 12 percent over the next five years.
Western Europe is leading this transition, particularly Germany, where solar and battery systems are becoming the norm. All ten regions tracked by DATAportl have seen strong adoption and rapid growth.
DATAportl has identified 24 home battery suppliers globally. Tesla has long been the market leader but now faces strong competition from lower-cost providers that are expanding rapidly.
